It’s time for Pensieve’s Poetic License. I intended to write poetry about faith and God as much as possible, and I suppose I still could have, but the rules for the clarihew made that a little more difficult, so I thought I’d write about two of the biggest blessings God has given me. The theme is May, which obviously houses the holiday of Mother’s Day. On that note…

My momma’s nickname is Gran’ Bat.

I know you’re a little shocked to hear that.

But she’s cuckoo for bats and she didn’t like granny,

And my mother-in-law already claimed Nannie.

Here’s another. May is also Hamburger Month. No kidding? Nobody love hamburgers more than my hubby.

Have you met my husband named James?

He’s really quite picky ’bout names.

Don’t call him Jamie, or Jimmy or Jim.

The odds of him answering are quite very slim.

To top it all off.. I’ll be spending Memorial Day with both of them. :)

Stop by Robin’s for more poetry!

Hey, y’all - Check out the first of hopefully many instructional vidoes, made by - yes, that’s right - me! I only have my digital camera to record, and a tech crew of one (me) but all in all I think it came out well.

Please tell me what you think. Critique it and tell me what I can do better for the next one. Please. Really.

Next time I make laundry soap I’ll do that one, too. After I get at least one more video done, I’ll setup up a page for them. So stay tuned!

Middle children get a bad rap for being difficult, and well, mine has been challenging from day one, even before she was a “middle.” Though sweet, she has always been especially stubborn, especially independent and prone to temper tantrums and meltdowns.

But I love her so much!

I am so thankful that God has blessed her with a mind of her own, an independent nature and a tenacity to take a stand for what she believes in. Right now she might be taking a stand for extra dessert (and losing) but imagine what she might accomplish with that later in life!

I’m so thankful that God has used raising her to teach me many things as well.

  1. To see the blessings in everything that makes her difficult right now.
  2. To impress me with the importance of training her up in the way she should go.
  3. To teach me patience and gentleness and persistence.
  4. To show me more about God’s nature. (I imagine I am often like a difficult child, too.)

God is so good! All the time.

Thankful Thursday hosted by Sting My Heart.

Look what I found outside my house today!

I was going to use this terra cotta planter this afternoon until I saw what lay inside. The large “nest-like” thing is actually a man-made thing my mom gave me. But inside of that, this sweet little mommy bird built her own nest, complete with six little brown-speckled eggs.

Do you know how long I had to stand there to get this shot? I believe this is a Bewick’s Wren, but I may be wrong.

I watched her come and go every few minutes with a piece of something special for her nest. Diligently, hard at work to make her home for her soon-to-come babies. I observed as each time she came and went, she did so cautiously, on guard for any danger. As I watched her, I realized that she didn’t stop. Not once did she sit and rest inside with her little eggs. She kept going and going, popping in and out to keep building her nest, which quite frankly, looked just fine to me. And then I thought, this is what it means to be hard at work, building your home.

It all ties together with Read the rest of this entry »

Soul Food #5

The last few days I have been in a rotten mood. Instead of casting off that sin, though, I’ve just sat around and stewed in it. You know, like a big, bubbly, sinful hot tub.

Double, double, toil and trouble.

Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.

Yet, James 4:17 tells us Read the rest of this entry »

Finding Beauty In God

Finding beauty not in outward adornment, but rather seeking the beauty of the inner self - the unfading and imperishable beauty of a quiet and gentle spirit, a spirit completely in love with Christ. Finding beauty not in acceptance and praise from the world, but instead as a child of the King. Finding beauty not in beautiful things, but discovering beauty in our beautiful God. Finding beauty not in self, but in God's creation and in others. This sort of beauty will never fade, never grow old, never wrinkle and gray. Quite the opposite, this beauty will grow with each passing day, as we grow in our walk with Him.

Verse of the Day

Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. (Hebrews 13:15, ESV) (Listen)
